Behind the Scenes at The Startup Events

Hi Entrepreneur,

This newsletter is a bit different. We realised that you might not know who is behind The Startup Events. Typically, our communication focuses on you and highlights the amazing startups that pitch at our events, as well as how to gather more resources to build your startup.

But this time it’s different…

"Believe in yourself and all that you are. Know that there is something inside you that is greater than any obstacle." — Christian D. Larson

We thought it's time we properly introduced ourselves and shared a bit more about what we do at The Startup Events.

Who We Are
The core team is made up of two people, myself, Ricardo Pascual (LinkedIn) and Harry McDonough (LinkedIn).

We combined our experience in the startup and business world, added a touch of creativity, and launched a podcast, The Innovation Conversation (Podcast). Before we knew it, one thing led to another and we were running events and building this amazing community.

For those who were there at our first event, you probably remember that the microphone didn’t work and we had to improvise on the spot.

Thankfully, the Emergency Megaphone was available and what could have been a complete disaster in a packed bar became our symbol—a reminder of a moment when we overcame failure and emerged stronger.

Fortunately, we were not alone in this journey. James Beresford-Morgan (LinkedIn) has been with us since the beginning, facing his very own challenges along the way and creating Startup Networks—the forum where our community gathers and shares their experiences.

We also have a WhatsApp group for those that prefer quicker engagement: WhatsApp.

Now... We usually write about all the resources you can find online to help you on your journey, but this time we’re doing things differently. We are sharing our most precious resource with you—our people.

A couple of months ago, we decided we needed some help and placed an ad for an intern to assist with social media. We were overwhelmed with the number of people who wanted to help, grow, and learn on the job.

We want to tell you about their amazing work over the last couple of months. In no particular order:

  • Rushika Tungare has been running our newsletter, shaping it, and sharing a lot of resources. If you’re looking for an excellent copywriter, look no further: LinkedIn.

  • Liva Krakas has been running our YouTube. You can see her talking to the camera in a couple of videos and making sure our startups get the spotlight they deserve. Watch out Mr. Beast! LinkedIn.

  • Ola Reda has taken our TikTok from obscurity to lots of new followers and content. If you’re looking to grow your account, Ola is the one to talk to: LinkedIn.

  • Erz Musa has been running our Twitter, or X, ensuring we exist in that crazy space and grow in followers. Watch out Elon Musk! LinkedIn.

  • Ella Valentine took over our Instagram and improved it by 1000%, with some stats so unbelievable we had to look twice. If you want to grow your account, look no further: LinkedIn.

  • Ashley Yan impressed us from day one with her enthusiasm and ability to organize our crazy events. Well-organized and a go-getter, it’s hard not to share her enthusiasm and energy. If you’re ever thinking of running an event, she's the one to talk to: LinkedIn.

  • Last but not least, Jessica Memaj has been improving our podcast since day one. Watch out Steven Bartlett, Jessica is coming for you! LinkedIn.

There you go, a bit of a different newsletter.

Wait, what about all the other stuff we do?

You’re right, we almost missed out on that!
