The Innovation Conversation: Akil Benjamin on creating a community

Join Akil Benjamin, a visionary entrepreneur dedicated to supporting small businesses, in this episode of Innovation Conversations. As the founder of Comuzi, a design studio turned business growth platform, Akil shares his insights on navigating the startup ecosystem.

Akil highlights the importance of starting small and experimenting to validate ideas before scaling. He stresses building strong relationships with partners and investors, aligning goals, and demonstrating value for mutual success. Recognising the conservative nature of the UK market, Akil advises entrepreneurs to adapt their business models and focus on sales and traction to attract investment.

A key highlight is the creation of the Black Business Residency at Somerset House. Akil discusses the challenges and successes of building this programme, which has significantly supported Black entrepreneurs. He offers valuable advice for young entrepreneurs on raising funds and navigating the UK startup scene.
